Robinson Helicopter Weight and Balance
Struggling with the pre-flight weight and balance calculations on your Robinson R22 or R44 helicopter? Then try out this MS Excel spreadsheet. Unlike many of the other weight and balance spreadsheets available on the internet, this CG calculator has a clean and readable layout. It is also very easily customised to match the details of your own aircraft.
Simply enter your weight, and the weight of your passengers plus their baggage, and the calculator will tell you how much fuel you can load to reach MTOW, and also show you the CG position on the charts taken from the POH. Simple drop-down lists allow you to choose your doors and dual-control configuration, and see how the change in weight affects your CG position. If things start to light up red – you know you’re overloaded!

This thing looks really cool, but I’ll be danged if I can get to let me put my own basic empty weight in, which doesn’t do me any good, for everything else. I don’t under stand what those G-TBTA and all that is, Looks like you should be able to put your aircraft in there and save it but that doesn’t seem to be what it is and I am not finding any tutorials any where. Thanks for any help you might be able give.

I do intend to put some tutorials up at some point, just haven’t got around to it yet.
The G-BTBA etc. are UK style aircraft registrations. You can just change those to match the format of your countries aircraft.
The first thing you need to do in order to edit the spreadsheet is unlock it. The sheet is “protected” so that certain cells cannot be changed by accident. In Office 2003 this is “Tools/Protection/Unprotect Sheet” and in Office 2007 is “Review Tab/Unprotect Sheet”.
You will then be able to change the “Aircraft Information” section to match your aircraft.
The aircraft registration field is setup as a drop-down list. You need to select cell I2 then go to “Data/Data Validation” and edit the “source” field so that all your new aircraft registrations show up in the drop down list. If you like, you could just remove the drop-down list and manually type in the required aircraft registration each time.
If you want to change the aircraft type, from say R22 Beta to R22 Beta II, then you just need to update the two CG columns with the correct parameters.
Make sure you “Protect” the sheet again after your changes to ensure that nothing gets changed by accident.

Can you please tell me how to use the Alt. and temp feature? It gives a 3 digit negative number when I enter
the pressure alt and the outside air temp.

Many thanks for your interest.
The pressure altitude and temperature boxes are used to calculate the density altitude. Simply enter your current pressure altitude in feet and the ambient temperature in degrees Celsius, and it will tell you your current density altitude. It doesn’t do anything with this figure, it’s just there to give you a heads up regarding performance in case your density altitude is higher than you think!
If you would like a version that does the calculation using degrees Fahrenheit, I’ll make the conversion and get back to you with a new spreadsheet.
